I love a good golf trip. In fact, my very first post back in 2020 was all about them, and my homepage is an image from one of my Bandon trips. Over time, though, I’ve found that while I can create an awesome spreadsheet for your group, golf trips usually aren’t the best fit for custom builds.
Here’s why:
- Every trip is highly customized, which means new development, formulas, and hours of work.
- You only get one shot at a trip—if something goes wrong, it can ruin the weekend.
- Unlike a golf league (where errors can be fixed and improvements made over time), a trip doesn’t allow for do-overs.
Because these custom builds are expensive and risky, I don’t do them.
However, I often receive questions about golf trips and golf trip games, so here are my thoughts:
- If you are the group planner (you choose a destination, lodging, budgeting, etc.), check out Golf Trips by Ty on Instagram. If you are a DIYer, he sells information on golf trip planning. Or if you want to take an easier route, he’ll plan the trip for you!
- If you are the “gamemaker” (you set handicaps, structure the tournament format, create side games, etc.), consider incorporating my pre-built Calcutta and Sportsbook spreadsheets into your trip. And if you want an app to help organize your game(s), check out Squabbit.
